THE PROMISE
The form of zinc your body actually uses.
Zinc cannot be stored by the body — it must be obtained daily, and the form matters enormously. Zinc Picolinate delivers 30mg of elemental zinc chelated to picolinic acid, the body's own natural zinc transporter, for the absorption other forms can't match.
The Most Bioavailable Form
Bound to picolinic acid — a natural chelator produced from tryptophan in the body. Research consistently shows picolinate outperforms zinc citrate, gluconate, and oxide in absorption.*
30mg — The Meaningful Dose
The dose used in immune and testosterone research. Most multivitamins provide only 8–10mg — functionally inadequate for real therapeutic benefit. Not excessive, not insufficient.*
Vegan · Non-GMO · Made in USA
Manufactured to professional-grade standards with no unnecessary fillers, artificial coatings, or common allergens. What you see on the label is what you get.*
The Unsung Hero of Immunity
Zinc supports immune function, DNA synthesis, wound healing, protein synthesis, testosterone, and your sense of taste and smell — yet most people are quietly deficient.*
WHY IT WORKS
Six systems, one mineral.
Immune System Defense
Zinc is essential for the development and function of neutrophils, natural killer (NK) cells, and T-lymphocytes. Even mild to moderate zinc deficiency impairs immune function — making it arguably the most important single mineral for immune resilience.*
Skin Health & Wound Healing
Zinc plays a direct role in maintaining the structural integrity of skin and mucous membranes. It is required for the activation of collagenase enzymes involved in wound remodeling and is a cofactor for over 300 enzymes involved in cellular repair.*
DNA Synthesis & Cell Division
Zinc is required for DNA replication, transcription, and protein synthesis at the most fundamental cellular level. It is a structural component of zinc finger proteins — transcription factors that regulate gene expression throughout the body.*
Antioxidant Protection
Zinc is a structural component of copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD), one of the body's primary antioxidant enzymes. Adequate zinc status correlates with lower oxidative stress biomarkers across multiple clinical studies.*
Testosterone & Male Health
Zinc is a required cofactor for testosterone synthesis — necessary for the function of Leydig cells and the production of luteinizing hormone. Athletes are particularly susceptible to sub-optimal testosterone due to zinc losses through sweat and urine.*
Taste, Smell & Appetite
Zinc is a cofactor for carbonic anhydrase VI (gustin), the enzyme responsible for maintaining taste bud function and the ability to smell. Classic symptoms of zinc deficiency include reduced taste acuity and smell — frequently reversed with supplementation.*

YOUR PROTOCOL
When to take it,
and why it matters
One capsule daily with food — ideally dinner. Zinc cannot be stored, so daily consistency is the most important factor. Hover each card to see the biological mechanism.
WITH DINNER
Take one capsule with your evening meal. Zinc is best absorbed with food — particularly protein-rich foods — which also reduces the mild GI discomfort that some people experience when zinc is taken on an empty stomach. Dinner timing pairs well with the immune and recovery functions zinc performs during overnight tissue repair.
WHY IT WORKS
Zinc absorption is enhanced in the presence of dietary protein because amino acids act as natural chelating agents. Additionally, taking zinc with food slows gastric emptying and extends the absorption window in the small intestine, where most zinc uptake occurs via ZIP4 and other transporter proteins.
DAILY CONSISTENCY
Unlike vitamins A, D, E, and K, zinc is not stored in body tissues. Daily intake is required to maintain adequate plasma and tissue levels. Missing days creates gaps in zinc-dependent enzyme function — including the immune enzymes that require zinc as an immediate cofactor. Daily supplementation is the most important factor.
WHY IT WORKS
The body has no dedicated zinc storage compartment. Muscle and bone contain zinc but it is not released for physiological use on demand. Total body zinc is maintained only through consistent dietary and supplemental intake, making daily compliance critical for sustained therapeutic benefit.
AWAY FROM IRON & CALCIUM
Take zinc at a different time of day than iron supplements or high-calcium foods (dairy, calcium supplements). Iron, calcium, and zinc compete for the same intestinal absorption transporters — particularly DMT1. Taking them together meaningfully reduces zinc absorption. A 2–3 hour separation is sufficient.
WHY IT WORKS
Divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1) handles iron, zinc, and several other trace minerals — but with finite capacity. When iron or calcium is present in large amounts, it competitively inhibits zinc uptake. This is one of the most common but least-recognized causes of zinc inadequacy even in those who supplement.
SUGGESTED USE
1 capsule daily with food.
Take 1 capsule daily with a meal or as recommended by your healthcare professional. Do not exceed 30mg daily without physician guidance, as excessive zinc intake can deplete copper over time.
Full-Spectrum Formula

Maximum absorption.
Simple by design. A single active ingredient at the dose and form where the science is clear — no blending, no splitting, no compromises.
The most bioavailable form of zinc.
Picolinic acid is a natural organic acid produced endogenously as a byproduct of tryptophan metabolism. When zinc is bound to picolinic acid, it forms a highly stable chelate that resists degradation in the GI tract and is efficiently transported across intestinal epithelial cells via specific carrier proteins. A landmark study by Barrie et al. (1987) demonstrated significantly higher red blood cell, bone, and hair zinc concentrations with picolinate compared to citrate or gluconate forms. This makes zinc picolinate the gold standard for supporting sustained optimal zinc status.

Built by someone with
personal stakes in it.
Devin started Pure Prescriptions in 1999 after battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma and losing his father to leukemia. That experience made him the most stubborn kind of formulator — one who refuses to ship anything he wouldn't take himself.
Every ingredient here earned its place through clinical evidence, third-party testing, and that same personal lens — the five collagen types, the organic fruiting-body mushrooms, the co-factors. Nothing is decorative.
"Pure Prescriptions has always been more personal than corporate. Built by family. Still independent."
Our StoryYour Journey
What to expect
Zinc can't be stored. Replenishing takes weeks — and the benefits accumulate across multiple body systems simultaneously.
WEEK 1–2
Plasma Zinc Normalizes
Blood zinc levels begin rising within days of supplementation. Immune cells — particularly neutrophils and natural killer cells — begin accumulating zinc as tissue stores replenish. Many users notice reduced fatigue as zinc-dependent enzyme systems activate.
PLASMA LEVELS RISING
WEEK 2–4
Immune Function Improves
T-lymphocyte production improves and thymulin levels rise with adequate zinc. NK cell cytotoxicity increases. Neutrophil function and phagocytic activity are enhanced. This is the period when most users report noticeably fewer infections and faster recovery when they do get sick.
IMMUNE DEFENSE ACTIVE
WEEK 4–8
Skin & Wound Healing Visible
Zinc-dependent collagenase enzymes and keratinocyte function are fully supported. Wound healing speed improves. Skin conditions associated with deficiency (rashes, dermatitis, acne) often show meaningful improvement. Testosterone levels in deficient men begin rising.
SKIN · TESTOSTERONE
WEEK 8+
Full Sustained Benefit
All zinc-dependent systems operate at optimal capacity: 300+ enzyme systems, DNA replication fidelity, antioxidant superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD) activity, taste and smell acuity, and inflammatory response modulation. Continued daily supplementation maintains these benefits.

The Science
Why the form of zinc
changes everything.
If zinc can’t be absorbed, it can’t be used. Zinc oxide — the cheapest and most common form in supplements — has bioavailability as low as 18%. Zinc picolinate, by contrast, is chelated to picolinic acid: the body’s own natural zinc transporter. The Barrie et al. study demonstrated significantly superior tissue uptake over both citrate and gluconate forms.
- Picolinic acid is naturally produced from tryptophan in the body
- Chelation protects zinc from GI degradation and phytate interference
- Barrie et al. (1987): superior red blood cell, bone & hair zinc levels
- Clinically significant at just 30mg — the dose that matters in research

Picolinic acid is a natural organic compound produced in the human body from the amino acid tryptophan — it’s actually the body’s own zinc transporter. When zinc is bound to picolinic acid, it forms a highly stable chelate that resists degradation in the GI tract, resists competitive inhibition from phytates (found in plant foods), and is efficiently transported across intestinal epithelial cells. A landmark 1987 study by Barrie et al. found significantly higher concentrations of zinc in red blood cells, bone, and hair for picolinate vs. both citrate and gluconate forms. Zinc oxide — the most common cheap form — has bioavailability as low as 18%.
At one capsule, 30mg zinc supplementation is safe for most adults and is well within the NOAEL (No Observed Adverse Effect Level) established by clinical research. However, long-term high-dose zinc supplementation can impair copper absorption because both minerals compete for the same intestinal transporter (metallothionein). At 30mg daily, the risk is low with a balanced diet. If supplementing long-term, consider ensuring adequate copper intake through diet (liver, shellfish, nuts) or choose a zinc supplement that includes a small amount of copper.
Zinc deficiency is more widespread than commonly appreciated. Signs include frequent colds and infections, poor wound healing, skin rashes or acne, reduced sense of taste or smell, white spots on fingernails, hair loss, and slow growth in children. A serum zinc test from your physician can confirm deficiency, though serum levels are not always reliable for marginal deficiency — symptoms and dietary assessment are also important diagnostic tools. Vegetarians, older adults, athletes, and people with GI conditions are at highest risk.
Adults may take this with or without food per the label. Food reduces the mild GI discomfort some people experience when zinc is taken on an empty stomach. Dietary protein enhances zinc absorption because amino acids act as natural chelating agents. Meat, fish, and poultry are particularly good co-ingestion foods. Important: take zinc at a different time from iron supplements or high-calcium foods, as these minerals compete for the same intestinal transporters and can reduce zinc absorption.
Yes, with one important note: separate zinc from iron and calcium supplements by at least 2 hours. Zinc pairs exceptionally well with Vitamin C (which synergistically enhances immune function through different pathways), Vitamin D3 (which also modulates adaptive immunity), and Perfect Immune® (which activates NK cells and macrophages through toll-like receptor pathways distinct from zinc’s mechanisms). Together these form a comprehensive multi-layer immune defense.
Plasma zinc levels begin rising within days of supplementation. Immune, skin, wound-healing, and taste/smell support build over weeks with consistent use. Daily consistency is the most important factor — zinc cannot be stored and must be supplied daily.
Doctor’s Protocol
How I’d build your
complete immune defense.
“Zinc is my first-choice single mineral for immune support because it’s involved in every stage of the immune response — from neutrophil function to T-cell maturation. Layer in vitamin C for antioxidant protection of immune cells, D3 for adaptive immunity, and Perfect Immune for NK cell activation. That’s a complete four-layer immune protocol.”

Vitamin C Complex
Zinc and vitamin C are the two most studied nutrients for immune function, and they work through completely different mechanisms. Zinc supports innate immunity (neutrophils, NK cells, thymulin) while vitamin C protects immune cells from oxidative stress and supports lymphocyte function. Together they provide more complete immune coverage than either alone.
Bone · Immune · Mood · 5,000 IU
Ultimate Vitamin D
Vitamin D3 modulates adaptive immunity — T-cell differentiation, B-cell maturation, and inflammatory cytokine regulation — through pathways completely independent of zinc. Zinc handles innate immunity; D3 handles adaptive immunity. Adding D3 to a zinc protocol covers the two primary pillars of immune function.
NK Cells · AHCC® · Elderberry
Perfect Immune
Perfect Immune® provides AHCC®, beta-glucans, elderberry, and astragalus — ingredients that activate natural killer cells and macrophages via Toll-like receptor pathways completely distinct from zinc. This creates a third layer of immune protection: innate cellular (zinc) + adaptive modulation (D3) + NK cell activation (Perfect Immune).
