Potassium (aspartate) – Potassium aspartate is especially important to ensure healthy and proper physiological functioning in our organ systems. Potassium is responsible for numerous enzymatic functions as well as proper acid-alkaline balance in the blood, thus a supportive tool for bone mineralization. Potassium is also especially important for managing blood pressure. Potassium works along with sodium as vital electrolytes, creating electrical charges inside the cells. This electrical charge is how muscle contractions happen, most importantly, our heart beat.
Potassium activates many enzymatic reactions and is essential to a number of physiologic processes, including transmission of nerve impulses; contraction of cardiac, smooth, and skeletal muscles; gastric secretion; renal function; tissue synthesis; and carbohydrate metabolism. Potassium is the major cation of intracellular fluid and is essential for maintenance of acid-alkaline balance, isotonicity, and electrodynamic characteristics of the cell. In addition, it works with sodium to maintain healthy water balance, heart rhythm, and nerve and muscle function.
