Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is often called the “silent disease” because bone loss occurs without symptoms. Bones are active, living tissues. They are a matrix comprised of protein and collagen fibers to which various minerals, like calcium, become attached. On a daily basis, our bones are continually being dissolved and rebuilt. It is part of a normal process where old bone tissue is replaced with new. As we age, our body’s ability to rebuild new bone is surpassed by the rate at which bones are being dissolved.
