B Vitamins are absolutely crucial to support energy, the nervous system, DNA synthesis & cell repair, healthy skin, nails and hair and so much more…

What Are B-Vitamins?

B vitamins are a group of essential water-soluble vitamins that play critical roles in maintaining overall health and well-being. The B vitamin complex includes eight distinct vitamins: B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B7 (biotin), B9 (folate or folic acid), and B12 (cobalamin).

Each B vitamin has unique functions in the body, but they often work together to support various bodily processes, such as energy metabolism, nervous system function, red blood cell production, DNA synthesis, and cellular repair. B vitamins are involved in converting the food we eat into energy and are crucial for maintaining healthy skin, hair, eyes, liver, and brain function.

Since B vitamins are water-soluble, they are not stored in the body for long periods, and regular intake through diet or supplementation is necessary to maintain adequate levels.

Activated B-Vitamins and Women’s Health

Did you know that a women’s body uses more B vitamins than men? Women need more B’s, especially if we are using birth control pills, or are on hormone replacement, as these treatments tend to deplete B vitamins more rapidly. Women who are trying to conceive and those pregnant or nursing also require higher amounts of B vitamins, especially B12 and Folate for healthy fetal development. Dealing with continuous stress, excess alcohol intake, smokers, and eating high-carb diets can also deplete our B-vitamins. Our bodies do not store B-vitamins very well, so it is important to eat foods high in B’s as well as supplementing them with a high-quality, activated formula.

How can you tell if you are depleted in B vitamins? Here are some symptoms to look for:

• Depression*
• Increased Anxiety/inability to manage stress*
• Fatigue*
• Nervousness*
• Insomnia*
• Loss of appetite*
• Cracks in the corner of the mouth*
• Burning or sore tongue*
• Anemia*
• Skin problems/acne*
• Hair loss/early greying*
• Increased cholesterol levels*
• Weakness in leg muscles*

B-Vitamins Need This

When choosing a B-complex supplement, there are some key points to consider, as they are not all created equal. B-Vitamins are better absorbed and used by the body when they are taken in their activated state. For example; Cobalamin (B12), for our body to use this crucial nutrient, it must be methylated, which is a transfer of a methyl group (CH3) from one molecule to another to become methylcobalamin. For most of us, this methylation process is no issue, but for approximately 40% of the population of people, they have a gene mutation (MTHFR) which prohibits this function to be expressed properly. Folate, Thiamine (B1) and Pyridoxine (B6) also require activation to be fully expressed and usable within the body.

Test Your B-Vitamin Levels

You can also check the levels of B-vitamins through lab testing, specifically a CBC panel, which will show how many red blood cells we have, the size and shape of them, along with hemoglobin, and homocysteine. We offer a full suite of diagnostic testing through our partner Ulta Labs, where you can buy tests, and have them completed at a Quest location near you.
