In episode 81 of his video series, Dr. Larson discusses:

Last week Dr. Larson discussed the findings of a study done on time-restricted eating windows and how they can help you to lose body fat. Specifically, restricting the time window of participants in the experimental group lead to the unintended consequence of a significant drop in body fat percentage, as opposed to the control group, who had no significant change.

Since humans have unlimited access to food, when their circadian cycle is out of whack, it causes them not to get the proper signals about when it is time to eat and when it is not DR. CHAD LARSON

A study released by the Salk Institute demonstrated the same benefits of time-restricted eating. In the study, researchers knocked out something called the circadian cycle of mice. The circadian cycle, or the circadian rhythm, is dictated by genes and hormones, and it controls sleep and wake cycles, as well as the eating cycle.

Often humans have their circadian cycle disrupted, which can lead to feeding changes that predispose them to obesity, diabetes, elevated triglyceride and cholesterol, and fatty liver disease, which are all common issues related to chronic diseases in humans.

The researchers first removed the circadian cycles of the mice and then placed them into two groups. The first group was allowed free access to food 24 hours a day. The second group was limited to a ten-hour time-restricted window.

The mice who were given 24-hour access to food became obese, they developed diabetes, and they had a significantly negative impact on their blood sugar metabolism, their fatty acids, and their cholesterol levels. The group who had a ten-hour time-restricted eating window did not develop any ill effects to their health.

When evaluated, the groups both ate the exact same number of calories. The ten-hour time-restricted group ate just as much as the other group, but there is something about the genetics and enzymes within the gastrointestinal system that works better on a time-restricted eating window than when it has to work 24-hours.

Since humans have unlimited access to food, when their circadian cycle is out of whack, it causes them not to get the proper signals about when it is time to eat and when it is not, and that can significantly throw off their metabolism.

Without changing what you are eating or the number of calories you consume, if you just limit the time window that you allow yourself to eat, you will have the ability to lose body fat and to increase your ability to burn fat. If you only make one small change to your diet, try limiting the amount of time you eat during the day for some really great benefits.
